Strongman, Kevin Tolbert

Dr. Ken Leistner trained Kevin Tolbert for years with various training formats. Many years ago Kevin put together a 600 X 30 Squat and 450 x 15 Stiff-Legged Deadlift (off of blocks.) That means he Squatted 600 for 30 reps, and then went immediately to the Stiff Legged Deadlift and banged out 15 reps with 450.

Kevin was, and still is, an amazing example of what being an iron man really means. He is in the immortal iron game pantheon with the likes of Doug Hepburn, Marvin Eder, Paul Anderson, and John Davis. I once had a correspondence with a self-proclaimed iron game "historian" who said he was not impressed with Kevin's awesome display of leg pressing at one of the old Nautilus get togethers that Kim Wood held each year in Ohio, because he felt that Kevin was moving too fast and using too much momentum. I laughed and wrote back that 99.9% of all the iron gamers in the world could not do "one" rep with Kevin's demo resistance, let alone the 20-30 ( or more ) that Kevin displayed. He is one of my iron game heroes ( along with his coach and foster father, Dr. Ken Leistner ).
