Actually, when I see this clips, I get pissed, because I see a fighter who had all the physical skills and tools to be the best ever HVYWT boxer, and he blew it. He had the quickness and agility of a lightweight, but the powerful punching of a heavyweight. If only he would have stayed training with the trainer in the clips (Kevin Rooney, I believe) he would have been the best.

Thanks for posting, even though the music was a s lame as it gets!

Tom

p.s. did you get the disc of pics from Miami?

Tom (s) yes, he had the physical tools no doubt but he had the psychology of a pea. he was easily shaken from his focus and couldn't control his emotions. sadly that is the reason he never came close to being as great as he could have been despite what he did accomplish. His parting from first Teddy A and then Kevin sure didn't help keep him in the right direction.

I saw Mike in a smoker in 1982 or 1983 and remember back then people were saying he was destined for big things...

I read Jose Torres book regarding Cus D'Amato years ago. I was totally impressed with his thought process. Even Bruce Lee refered to it.
My favorite boxer was Jack Dempsey.

Yes, I read Torres book also "The Fire and the Fear"? I believe.

Jack Dempsey was my dad's favorite as well, he even named his dog (a boxer, naturally) "Dempsey. The damn dog outlived him!! Dempsey was something special to be sure. I recently watched his KO of Jess Willard, despite the size difference Dempsey completely beasted Willard.

My close Uncle was nicknamed Dempsey. He was Charlie's mentor for those who know my history. I had a Pitbull named Dempsey as well.

Great footage. It is a shame what happened between then and now but that is what happens when a guy with an IQ of 60 gets a bunch of money and moves out of the group home.
